Vatican City, July 12, 2026: Italian automaker Fiat will donate 30 fully electric vehicles to Vatican City State to support the daily operations of employees of the Governorate as part of the Vatican's efforts to reduce emissions and promote sustainable mobility.
The vehicles will be used for internal transport within the Vatican, helping to lower the environmental impact of its official fleet. The initiative forms part of the Ecological Conversion 2030 programme launched by the Governorate of Vatican City State in 2023, which aims to gradually decarbonise the Vatican's fleet and achieve zero emissions by the end of the decade.
The first phase of the project was completed on 30 June with the delivery of 20 Fiat Topolino electric vehicles during a handover ceremony held outside the Governorate Palace. The event was attended by Archbishop Emilio Nappa and Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi, Secretaries-General of the Governorate, along with Olivier François, CEO of Fiat and Chief Marketing Officer of Stellantis.
The remaining 10 fully electric Fiat TRIS vehicles will complete the fleet.

The vehicle donation is one element of the Vatican's wider Ecological Conversion 2030 programme, which also includes measures to reduce the environmental impact of the Holy See's activities through the responsible use of natural resources, improved energy efficiency, and the modernisation of technological infrastructure.
The programme further promotes cleaner energy sources for transport, strengthens waste management policies, and supports future reforestation projects as Vatican City State continues its journey towards climate neutrality.
Since launching the initiative in 2023, the Governorate has said it aims to position Vatican City State among the world's leading examples of sustainability by adopting innovative solutions that protect the environment while modernising its operations and management practices.
