Mysuru, March 18, 2026 — In a notable expression of Christian unity during the Lenten season, believers from various denominations gathered in Mysuru for the first-ever Lenten Reconciliation Prayer Service organised by the United Christian Forum. The initiative brought together clergy and lay faithful from Mandya, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar districts, creating a shared platform for prayer, repentance, and renewed commitment to faith.
The service, held at St. Mary’s Seminary near LIC Circle in Bannimantapa, highlighted the deeper significance of Lent as a time not only for personal conversion but also for communal reconciliation. Participants from diverse Christian traditions joined in a prayerful atmosphere marked by fraternity and mutual respect.
Addressing the gathering, Fr. John Sagayapushparaj underscored the importance of coming together as one Christian family to seek God’s mercy and healing. A vibrant praise and worship session led by Pr. Praise Daniel helped participants enter into a reflective and contemplative spirit.
The central Lenten reflection was delivered by Bishop Francis Serrao, who described Lent as a sacred journey of repentance, renewal, and return to God. Drawing attention to the spirit of Ash Wednesday, he reminded the faithful of the need to acknowledge human frailty and seek divine mercy.
Reflecting on the Parable of the Prodigal Son, the bishop emphasised God’s boundless compassion and readiness to forgive those who return with sincere hearts. He further invoked the parable of Lazarus and the rich man, cautioning against indifference to the suffering of others and urging believers to embrace compassion, charity, and faith in their daily lives.
Meditating on the passion and death of Jesus Christ, Bishop Serrao described the Cross as the ultimate sign of God’s love and a call to conversion. He encouraged the faithful to turn away from sin and re-centre their lives on God during the Lenten season.
Additional reflections by Rev. Dr. Timothy John and Rev. Gurushanthiah reinforced the call to deepen faith and promote unity among Christians, echoing the ecumenical spirit of the gathering.
The programme also featured interactive group sessions that enabled participants to engage in shared prayer and dialogue on themes of personal conversion, reconciliation, and spiritual renewal. Intercessory prayers, led by Rev. Gurushanthiah, focused on the needs of the Church, peace in the world, and unity among Christians, while also addressing reconciliation within families and communities.
The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening ecumenical ties in the region, offering a model of unity grounded in shared faith, mutual respect, and a collective commitment to spiritual renewal during Lent.
