Dibrugarh Diocese Hosts Youth Convention on Theme ‘Pilgrims of Hope’

Dibrugarh, Assam, 3 October 2025: More than 1,500 young people from across the parishes and zones of the diocese participated in the 3rd Diocesan Youth Convention, held from 28 September to 1 October at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Centred on the theme “Pilgrims of Hope”.


The convention was inaugurated by Bishop Albert Hemrom of Dibrugarh, who declared the gathering open and presided over the Holy Eucharist. The inaugural session also witnessed the release of the first annual magazine of the diocesan youth commission, Youth Mirror.


Throughout the convention, youth delegates were encouraged to be faithful agents of hope, witnessing God’s love, service, and goodness in society. Bishop Hemrom urged the young participants to embrace their mission as witnesses of faith in a world in need of hope.


Fr. John Minj, director of the diocesan youth commission, coordinated the event, which featured talks, cultural activities, and spiritual enrichment. The sessions guided the participants on areas such as sacramental life, Catholic identity, education and career, the influence of social media, and the importance of health, led by priests and resource persons including Fr. William Horo, Fr. Dr. G. P. Amalraj, Dr. Paulus Kullu, youth leader Shilpa Ekka, and Sr. Dr. Lini.


Panel discussions on ‘Current Issues of Catholic Youth and the Way Forward’ and ‘Youth and Relationships’ gave participants opportunities to share experiences and explore practical responses to challenges faced in today’s society.


Alongside the talks, the convention included daily Mass, adoration, confessions, rosary services, and Taizé prayers. The cultural dimension of the gathering was marked by vibrant zonal programmes and performances in music, dance, and traditional art, highlighting the creativity and diversity of the youth.


One of the key speakers, youth leader Shilpa Ekka from Odisha, reflected on the role of Catholic youth in socio-political leadership. “As a tribal, I believe we are called to stand for our people, to speak, to lead, and to raise our voice against injustice. Together, we can shape a just and hopeful future,” she said, adding that she was inspired by the energy and faith of the participants.


The Closing Mass was presided over by Bishop Emeritus Joseph Aind, SDB. The event left the young faithful renewed in their Catholic identity, inspired to be agents of hope, and empowered to contribute actively to the life of the Church and society.
