CRI Shillong Marks Day of Consecrated Life with Eucharist and “Parables Alive” Cultural Witness

Shillong, March 1, 2026: The Shillong unit of the Conference of Religious India celebrated the Day of Consecrated Life with a solemn Eucharistic celebration at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, followed by the vibrant “Parables Alive” concert at Bianchi Hall. More than 300 consecrated men and women from various congregations participated in the gathering, underscoring the unity and vitality of religious life in the region.

The Eucharist was presided over by Victor Lyngdoh, with liturgical music led by the FMA Juniors Choir. In his homily, the archbishop invited religious to renew the grace of their vocation, emphasising that the celebration honours not an institution but a calling and a gift. He encouraged consecrated persons to deepen prayer, strengthen community unity, and serve as credible witnesses and joyful missionaries, while also supporting emerging vocations. He commended the local CRI’s contribution to synodality and care for creation within the archdiocese.

The cultural programme, “Parables Alive,” featured nine performances by formation houses, presenting Gospel parables through music, drama, and dance. The creative interpretations highlighted the continuing relevance of Jesus’ teachings for contemporary religious life, addressing themes of compassion, forgiveness, and trust in God amid social and cultural challenges.

In his address, Sunil Britto, President of CRI Shillong, reflected on the prophetic dimension of consecrated life in a world marked by conflict, ecological concern, and indifference, calling participants to renew their commitment with courage and hope.

Joseph Mappilaparambil, Provincial of the Claretian Fathers, observed that the celebration brought together younger and senior religious in a shared witness to the Gospel, strengthening unity and missionary zeal inspired by the example of Mary.

Through artistic expression and communal prayer, the celebration offered both spiritual renewal and a public witness to the enduring message of the Gospel, inviting consecrated persons to embody its values in daily life and ministry.
