Computer Training Programme Opens New Pathways for Inmates in Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi, February 25, 2026 — A three-month computer training programme aimed at equipping inmates with practical digital skills was inaugurated at the Central Prison in Kalaburagi, marking a significant step in rehabilitation and reintegration efforts within the correctional system.

The initiative, designed for 30 prisoners, is a collaborative effort of the Prison Ministry of India of Gulbarga Diocese and Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust. The programme focuses on employable digital competencies to support inmates in rebuilding their lives after release.

The formal inauguration was led by Chief Superintendent K. Suresh, who lit the ceremonial lamp and encouraged participants to use the opportunity for personal growth and transformation through disciplined learning. The event was also attended by Superintendent Rakesh Kamble and Deputy Superintendent Chennappa, who commended the initiative for fostering reform, self-reliance, and constructive reintegration.

The programme is being implemented under the leadership of Fr. William OCD and his team, whose ongoing pastoral outreach among prisoners reflects the Church’s commitment to restorative justice and human dignity. Their work emphasises rehabilitation by recognising the capacity for change and renewal in every person.

By introducing structured computer education within the prison environment, the initiative embodies the Church’s mission of compassion in action. Beyond technical training, it offers inmates renewed confidence and hope, affirming that opportunities for growth and transformation can emerge even within prison walls.
