Guwahati, Assam, June 11, 2026: Twenty-six teenagers from across India concluded a transformative twelve-day journey of faith, formation and missionary outreach as the 18th edition of CHALO Majerburi, the national mission exposure programme of Jesus Youth Teens Ministry India, came to an end on June 8.
Held from May 28 to June 8 in Assam, the programme brought together participants from Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Mumbai, Delhi, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. Accompanied by priests, religious, trainers and animators, the young participants experienced the richness of the Church's diversity while deepening their relationship with Christ and strengthening their commitment to missionary discipleship.
The programme commenced at the North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS) in Guwahati, where participants underwent a period of retreat, mission training and spiritual formation. Through prayer, celebration of the sacraments, reflections and interactive sessions, they were introduced to key aspects of Christian discipleship, evangelisation, leadership, community living and missionary service.
Following a commissioning ceremony on June 2, the young missionaries travelled to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Matia–Majerburi, in Goalpara district, where they were warmly welcomed by the local parish community.

From June 2 to 5, participants immersed themselves in village life, staying with families in Matia, Majerburi, Bengkanda and Kochpara. During their mission exposure, they visited homes, interacted with children and young people, organised community gatherings and participated actively in parish programmes and sacramental celebrations. They also conducted a special programme for students of Don Bosco School, Matia–Majerburi.
Organisers said the experience enabled the teenagers to encounter the realities of rural life, appreciate local cultures and witness the universality of the Church beyond differences of language, tradition and geography.
For many participants, the experience proved deeply transformative. Inba Fedrick from Tamil Nadu described the retreat as a life-changing encounter, particularly highlighting the Sacrament of Reconciliation and inner healing sessions.
“The Mission Exposure is something I will never forget. I will always remember the people, the peace, the hospitality and the strong faith I witnessed there,” he said.
The programme concluded with a final gathering in Guwahati from June 6 to 8, during which participants reflected on their missionary experiences and explored practical ways to continue living out their faith and service in their respective communities.
Among those who encouraged the participants was John Moolachira, who visited the group during both the opening and concluding phases of the programme. His presence underscored the Church's support for youth formation and missionary engagement.
The organisers expressed gratitude to Fr. Bastin Karakkat OFM Cap, Fr. Nicholas, Fr. Anil, Sr. Maria and the entire formation team for their dedication and guidance throughout the programme.
For more than two decades, CHALO has served as a platform for nurturing missionary disciples among young people, helping them encounter Christ, experience the life of the Church in diverse settings and grow as witnesses of the Gospel in their families, parishes and communities.
