Regional Mental Health Conference to Bring Church and Healthcare Leaders Together in West Bengal

RAIGANJ, June 11, 2026: Recognising the growing importance of mental well-being as an integral part of holistic healthcare and pastoral ministry, Church leaders, healthcare professionals, educators and social workers from across West Bengal are set to gather for the Regional Mental Health Conference West Bengal 2026 in Raiganj this August.

The two-day conference will be held on August 1 and 2 at Jeevan Dhara, Chotparua, P.O. Karnajora, in Uttar Dinajpur district. Organised jointly by WBCHA, CRI and CMIHM, the event aims to provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration and awareness-building on mental health challenges affecting individuals, families and communities.

The conference is being organised in collaboration with the Bishop’s Conference of West Bengal, the Regional Health Association and the Regional Health Commission, West Bengal, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing mental health concerns through coordinated action and pastoral care.

Organisers expect participation from a broad cross-section of Church and civil society leaders, including bishops, major superiors, psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, psychologists, counsellors, social workers, teachers and educators. Hospital administrators, diocesan commission secretaries, heads of institutions, priests, religious and lay leaders have also been invited to take part in the discussions.

The gathering will focus on the growing significance of mental health in contemporary society and explore ways in which healthcare institutions, educational establishments, social service agencies and Church communities can work together to promote mental well-being and compassionate care.

By bringing professionals, administrators, educators and Church leaders onto a common platform, the conference seeks to strengthen cooperation and foster a more holistic response to mental health concerns, an issue that continues to impact people across all sectors of society.

Organisers have invited interested participants to register through the online registration facility made available for the event. Additional information may be obtained from Sr. Sobhasini F.C., Programme Coordinator, who is overseeing arrangements for the conference.

The initiative underscores the Church's growing engagement with mental health ministry and its commitment to promoting human dignity, healing and integral well-being in an increasingly complex social environment.
