CCBI Youth Commission Opens 9th National Training Programme for Youth Animators and Chaplains

Bengaluru, June 4, 2026: The CCBI Youth Commission inaugurated the 9th edition of its Animators and Chaplains Training Programme (ACT) 2026 at the National Biblical Catechetical and Liturgical Centre (NBCLC), Bengaluru, bringing together youth ministers, religious and lay leaders from across India for an intensive formation programme focused on youth ministry and leadership.


The twelve-day training programme has drawn 54 participants representing dioceses and congregations from different regions of the country. The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of those engaged in accompanying young people and fostering vibrant youth ministry within the Church.


The inaugural session was attended by Bishop Ignatius D'Souza of Bareilly , Chairman of the CCBI Youth Commission; Fr. Chetan Machado, Executive Secretary of the Commission; and Fr. John Barman, MSFS, Executive Secretary-designate.


The programme commenced with a prayer service invoking God's blessings on the participants and the days of formation ahead. Welcoming the gathering, Amit Dev, President of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), underscored the importance of collaboration and shared learning in strengthening youth ministry. He encouraged participants to use the programme as an opportunity to grow together in their mission of accompanying young people.


In his inaugural address, Bishop D'Souza highlighted the vital role played by animators and chaplains in nurturing the faith, leadership and holistic development of youth. He called on participants to become committed witnesses of Christ and dedicated mentors to the younger generation.


Fr. Machado outlined the vision and objectives of the training programme, emphasising the need for well-prepared youth ministers capable of responding effectively to the challenges and aspirations of today's young people. Fr. Barman encouraged participants to engage actively in the sessions and make the most of the opportunities for learning, dialogue and networking.


The inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks and prayer, setting the stage for days of formation, fellowship and renewed commitment to youth ministry. Through the programme, the CCBI Youth Commission seeks to strengthen youth leadership in the Church by equipping animators and chaplains with the skills, vision and pastoral sensitivity needed to serve young people effectively.
