New Delhi, March 20, 2026: On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Anthony Cardinal Poola, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, conveyed warm greetings to the Muslim community across the country, highlighting the shared values of unity, compassion, and peace.
In his message issued on behalf of the Catholic Church in India, Cardinal Poola extended his wishes to “dear Muslim brothers and sisters,” marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan—a time dedicated to prayer, fasting, and spiritual renewal. He underscored the deep spiritual meaning of Eid-ul-Fitr, describing it as a celebration that reflects sacrifice, discipline, and solidarity.
The Cardinal noted that the observance of fasting serves not only as an act of devotion but also as a means of inner purification, aligning the faithful more closely with the will of God. He praised the festival as a powerful witness to values that transcend religious boundaries and foster a spirit of mutual respect and understanding.
Addressing the broader global context, Cardinal Poola expressed concern over rising conflicts, social unrest, and the suffering of vulnerable populations. He called on people of all faiths to draw inspiration from the spirit of Eid to respond with compassion and solidarity.
“As you celebrate the breaking of the fast, let us unite our efforts to break down the walls of division, prejudice, and hatred that fracture humanity, and build bridges of fraternity, healing, and goodwill,” he said.
Concluding his message, Cardinal Poola offered prayers that the festival may bring joy, peace, and prosperity to families and communities, and inspire a renewed commitment to building a society rooted in harmony, justice, and mutual respect.
