VATICAN CITY, June 13, 2025– In a historic announcement, the Vatican has confirmed that Blesseds Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati will be canonised together in Rome on Sunday, 7 September 2025. The announcement was made following an Ordinary Public Consistory for the Canonisation of the Blesseds, presided over by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV earlier this morning.
Both Carlo Acutis, a modern-day teenager known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and his use of digital technology to spread the faith, and Pier Giorgio Frassati, a 20th-century layman celebrated for his life of charity and activism, will be inscribed in the Register of Saints on the first Sunday of September.
The Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff also revealed that several other Blesseds will be canonised later this year. The list includes Ignatius Choukrallah Maloyan, Peter To Rot, Vincenza Maria Poloni, María del Monte Carmelo Rendiles Martínez, Maria Troncatti, José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros, and Bartolo Longo. Their canonisation is scheduled to take place on 19 October 2025.
These forthcoming canonisations mark a significant moment for the global Catholic Church, honouring the lives and legacies of individuals who lived out heroic virtue and remain powerful witnesses of faith in the modern world.
