Belgaum Diocese Begins Platinum Jubilee Preparatory Year with Call for Pastoral Renewal

Belgaum, September 28, 2026: A journey of thanksgiving, communion and pastoral renewal is underway in Belgaum diocese as the faithful across its parishes marked the inauguration of the Preparatory Year of the Platinum Jubilee on 27 September 2026, under the theme “Walking Together towards a Pastoral Renewal”.

The celebrations followed liturgical guidelines prepared by the Core Jubilee Committee to ensure a common observance throughout the diocese.

The inaugural programme included an entrance procession with Jubilee placards, the recitation of the Rosary, unveiling of the Jubilee logo and a Medical Fund Box, followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The Platinum Jubilee Prayer was recited at the conclusion of the Mass.

At the Cathedral, Bishop Derek Fernandes highlighted the spiritual significance of the Jubilee journey in his homily and invited the faithful to actively participate in the pastoral renewal of the diocese.

The inauguration also marked a moment of thanksgiving for 73 years of the diocese’s journey and the blessings and guidance experienced over the years. The diocese is preparing to mark its 75th anniversary in 2028.

As the Preparatory Year begins, the faithful have been encouraged to participate in the Jubilee through prayer, family Rosaries, pastoral initiatives and charitable activities. The Jubilee journey calls the diocese to strengthen communion, participation and shared responsibility in carrying forward its mission and service to the people.
