Western Region Youth Council Meeting Begins with Zeal at Navsarni Kendra, Sawantwadi, Maharashtra

Sawantwadi, Maharashtra, 8 June, 2025 – The Western Region Youth Council Meeting commenced on 7 June with vibrant energy at Navsarni Kendra, the pastoral centre of the Diocese of Sindhudurg, uniting youth leaders, directors, and animators from across the region for a weekend of reflection, dialogue, and celebration.

The gathering was inaugurated in the presence of several esteemed dignitaries, including:

• Bishop Barthol Barreto – Chairman of the Western Region Youth Council and Bishop of Nashik

• Bishop Alwyn Barreto – Former Chairman and Bishop Emeritus of Sindhudurg

• Fr. Andrew D’Mello – Administrator of the Diocese of Sindhudurg

• Fr. Christopher Vaz – Regional Youth Director

• Sr. Smita Agaskar – Regional Lady Youth Animator

• Diocesan Youth Directors, Lady Animators, REXCOs and DEXCOs

The day began with a warm felicitation of the dignitaries, acknowledging their dedicated service to youth ministry. This was followed by a symbolic launch of the Western Region Youth Council’s E-magazine, which features highlights, initiatives, and creative contributions from youth across dioceses over the past year.

A comprehensive Regional Report was then presented, offering an overview of the year’s activities, milestones, and progress. Participants were then deeply engaged in a spiritually enriching session by Fr. Austin Fernandes, who offered thought-provoking reflections and practical insights.

Parallel meetings were held later in the day for Diocesan Directors, Animators, and REXCOs, encouraging collaborative planning, experience-sharing, and strengthening of regional networks.

As evening fell, the venue transformed into a celebration of culture and talent. A lively cultural evening showcased spirited performances, with entertaining acts by Mr. John D’Silva, Fr. Melvin, and his energetic band. The evening served as a joyful conclusion to a day marked by vision, connection, and faith.

With such a dynamic start, the Western Region Youth Council Meeting sets the tone for a weekend of renewed mission, shared inspiration, and youthful commitment to the Church’s call.
