Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, July 26, 2025: In a deeply spiritual and joy-filled gathering, the Diocese of Eluru celebrated three landmark events, uniting clergy, religious, and faithful in profound thanksgiving. The occasion marked the 12th Episcopal Anniversary of Dr. Jaya Rao Polimera, the blessing of the newly renovated Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, and Jubilee Celebrations for Bishops, Priests, and Religious, in line with the 2025 Jubilee Year theme, Pilgrims of Hope with the presence of Bishop Dr. T. Raja Rao of Vijayawada
The day began with a tribute to the late Bishop John Mulagada, the first Bishop of Eluru, at his monument in Eluru. On the eve of the anniversary, a High Tea event promoted interfaith harmony, drawing leaders from various religions, political representatives, and NGOs. The occasion showcased a spirit of unity and honoured Bishop Jaya Rao’s twelve years of committed leadership.
The Jubilee Celebrations, themed Joyful Priests – I have called you friends, commenced with an address by Fr T. Emmanuel, Chancellor of the Diocese. He encouraged all present to reflect on Pope Leo XIV’s vision of building vibrant, faith-filled communities.
His Excellency, Dr. Karnam Dhaman Kumar MSFS, Bishop of Nalgonda, delivered a poignant message on synodality, drawing from the teachings of the late Pope Francis. He urged clergy and religious to embrace mutual listening and shared responsibility in their pastoral mission.
The heart of the celebration was the solemn procession and re-dedication of the newly renovated Cathedral. His Eminence Anthony Cardinal Poola presided, joined by Bishop Jaya Rao Polimera and other prelates, religious, and faithful. In his homily, Cardinal Poola described the Cathedral as a “living temple of God’s presence” and praised Bishop Jaya Rao’s visionary leadership in its transformation. He emphasised the role of Mother Mary as a powerful intercessor and patroness of the Cathedral.
A large number of faithful participated in the Eucharistic celebration, followed by a warm felicitation ceremony. Bishop Jaya Rao honoured Cardinal Poola, neighbouring bishops, diocesan leaders, and religious superiors for their support. A special thanksgiving song, written and sung by the Bishop and composed by Fr. B. Raju, was also released.
The festivities included vibrant cultural performances by seminarians, novices, and youth. The day concluded with a vote of thanks by Fr. P. Bala, Vicar General, followed by a shared meal that captured the spirit of unity and joy within the diocesan family.
