Telugu Catholic Bishops' Council Discusses AI, Church Growth, and Future Challenges

Hyderabad, 21 March 2025 – The Telugu Catholic Bishops' Council (TCBC) held its three-day Ordinary Meeting from 17-19 March at St. John’s Regional Seminary, Ramanthapur. Bishops from across the Telugu region gathered to review the Church's progress and challenges, focusing on reports from various Regional Bodies and Commissions.

A special session titled "AI: Help or Impediment for Social and Spiritual Growth?", led by Fr. Dr. M. Xavier Rex SJ, sparked engaging discussions among the bishops. The session explored the role of artificial intelligence in society and the Church, prompting reflections on its ethical implications and potential benefits.

Presenting their annual reports, leaders from all 19 Commissions and seven Regional Bodies outlined their activities, achievements, and challenges over the past year, providing a comprehensive overview of the Church's mission and its impact in the region.

The meeting addressed critical issues facing the Church, with bishops identifying key conclusions and unresolved matters for follow-up at the next TCBC meeting in September 2025.

The bishops reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Church’s mission while tackling contemporary challenges. Moving forward, they plan to implement the recommendations from this session and prepare for the next phase of discussions later in the year.
