Senior Priest Fr. Moon from the Archdiocese Of Agra Passes Away; Archbishop Pays Tribute

AGRA, July 9, 2025— Rev. Fr. Eugine Moon Lazarus, a dedicated priest of the Archdiocese of Agra, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Ganga Ram City Hospital in New Delhi. He was 60. The Archdiocese of Agra confirmed the news through an official statement from Archbishop Raphy Manjaly, who paid heartfelt tribute to the late priest.

The statement mentioned that Fr. Moon was admitted to intensive care on June 26 following a critical deterioration in his health and remained on ventilatory support until his death. 

Affectionately known as “Moon Bhai”, Fr. Moon was born on October 21, 1964, in Padritola, R.C. Mission Compound, Agra. He belonged to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, which remained his spiritual home throughout his life. 

Ordained on May 1, 1994, Fr. Moon served the Archdiocese of Agra for over 31 years in various capacities, including as Diocesan Youth Director, Editor of the archdiocesan newsletter AGRADIANCE, Parish Priest, Professor, and Spiritual Director at St. Lawrence Minor Seminary.

Often described as “a missionary at heart, a fighter in spirit, a priest forever”, Fr. Moon was known for his unwavering dedication to the Church and his calm, compassionate presence. Even when he was undergoing treatment at Fatima Hospital in Agra, he continued to offer Holy Masses, pray the Rosary, write, and reflect—living out his vocation with humility and grace.

In his tribute, Archbishop Manjaly recalled Fr. Moon’s missionary spirit, his ability to animate the youth, and his love for the Church. He noted that Fr. Moon quietly worked from the background, touching lives across generations through his reflective wisdom and patient mentorship. “He taught us how to suffer with grace, how to pray in silence, and how to surrender fully to the Father’s will,” the archbishop said.

On behalf of the Archdiocese of Agra, Archbishop Manjaly extended his heartfelt condolences to Fr. Moon’s family, his parish community, his fellow priests, his students, and all who knew and loved him. 

Fr. Moon is survived by his only sibling, Dr. Anu Lazarus. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Agra.

The Archdiocese has invited the faithful to join in prayer and the Holy Eucharist for the repose of his soul.
