Together they raised eight children, one of whom—Saint Catherine of Sweden—would also become a revered saint.
Their marriage became a model of Christian family life, marked by prayer, generosity, and concern for those in need.
The couple welcomed the poor into their home, cared for the sick, and sought to live according to the Gospel despite their wealth and social standing.
After many years of faithful marriage, Ulf died following a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, leaving Bridget a widow.
Rather than withdrawing from her faith, she embraced God's call to an even deeper life of prayer and service.
Following her husband's death, Bridget devoted herself completely to God.
She experienced numerous mystical visions of Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, angels, and saints.
These revelations focused on Christ's Passion, God's mercy, the importance of repentance, and the urgent need for spiritual renewal within both society and the Church.
Her visions were carefully recorded and later compiled into the famous work known as the Revelations of Saint Bridget, which became one of the most influential spiritual writings of the Middle Ages.
