Ranchi Conference Calls Catholic Women to Faith, Love and Service

RANCHI, September 25, 2026: Catholic women from across India have gathered in Ranchi for the 26th National Conference of the Council of Catholic Women of India (CCWI), with a call to deepen their faith and translate it into love and service to the Church and society.

Held at the Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), the four-day conference is being conducted under the theme, “Women Today: Rooted in Faith, Radiant in Love, United in Service.” The gathering seeks to strengthen women in their Christian faith and encourage their active participation in the life and mission of the Church and in wider society.

The conference opened with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Archbishop Vincent Aind of Ranchi. Bishop Vinay Kandulna of Khunti, Fr Mathew Kozhikal, Deputy General Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), Fr Bishu Benjamin Aind and Fr John Barla concelebrated.

In his homily, Archbishop Aind reflected on King Herod, who, despite his outward power, was troubled by the ministry and works of Jesus. Contrasting Herod’s troubled conscience with Christ’s message of truth, love and peace, the Archbishop called on the faithful to examine their consciences, remain open to truth and seek genuine peace.

Addressing the women delegates, he urged them to remain rooted in faith and allow it to become a source of light for others.

“Rooted deeply in faith, let us become radiant ourselves and serve humanity with love and selflessness,” he said.

Fr Mathew Kozhikal highlighted the significant contribution of women to the Church and society, while CCWI National President Manisha Toppo welcomed the delegates, Church leaders, religious and guests.

Toppo outlined the vision and work of CCWI and underlined the relevance of the conference theme amid changing roles and responsibilities of women in the Church and society.

A documentary highlighting CCWI initiatives was screened during the inaugural programme. A souvenir commemorating the conference was also released by the dignitaries.

The conference will address the role of women in the family, Church and society, including their contribution to nation-building. Participants are expected to share experiences, challenges and ministries while exploring ways of responding to emerging needs in the Church and wider society.

The conference is jointly hosted by the Diocesan Mahila Sanghs of Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Daltonganj, with the support of women’s organisations from the participating dioceses and local collaborators.

The four-day gathering aims to renew a shared commitment to faith, love, unity and service and encourage Catholic women to contribute actively to their families, communities, Church and society.
