Philippines, Manila, Sept. 11, 2025 - Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), in collaboration with the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences’ Office of Social Communications (FABC–OSC), announced on September 10, 2025, the launch of a Mega International Short Film-Making Competition to mark the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’. The contest, themed “Environmental Advocacy in Asia: Translating the Vision of Laudato Si’ into Care for Our Common Home”, seeks to engage filmmakers and storytellers in raising awareness about ecological concerns in Asia.
The announcement was made during RVA’s third Laudato Si’ webinar, where organisers also unveiled a promotional video for the competition.
The contest is open to a wide range of participants, including filmmakers, students, youth groups, parishes, organisations, and religious congregations. While entries may come from any nationality, all films must highlight stories rooted in Asia’s environmental context. “Anyone with a camera and a story to tell about Asia’s environment is welcome to participate,” the organisers of the competition emphasised.
Entries must run between three and five minutes, be submitted in Full HD MP4 or MOV format, and include a high-resolution poster. Films in languages other than English must carry English subtitles. Each participant or organisation may submit only one entry. The deadline for submissions is November 10, 2025, at 11:59 PM (Philippine Time). Use of AI tools is permitted, though it may affect scoring.
The competition carries a total of USD 3,300 in cash prizes. The first prize winner will receive USD 1,000, the second USD 800, and the third USD 500. Ten finalists will each receive USD 100, while all qualifying participants will earn certificates of recognition. Winners will be announced on December 10, 2025, after evaluation by a panel of Asian filmmakers and media experts. Judging will consider thematic relevance, creativity, technical quality, emotional and social impact, and clarity of message.
Fr. Felmar Fiel, General Manager of RVA, said that the initiative aims to inspire filmmakers to produce authentic and challenging video stories that reflect Laudato Si’s call for ecological care. “Asia is the most vulnerable continent to ecology-related threats, and this competition is our way of encouraging the youth to respond creatively to this urgent need,” he said.
Fr. John Mi Shen, RVA’s Programme Director and Executive Secretary of FABC–OSC, who leads the project, expressed hope that the attractive prizes would encourage broad participation.
“Our intention is to support the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences in its efforts to conscientise Asians, especially the youth, on the ecological crisis and to work together to create a healthier and safer environment for the future,” he said.
Interested participants may register and submit their entries for the competition through this link.
