Pope Urges Young People to Embrace Christ and Holiness

Monterrey, Mexico, August 16, 2026: Pope Leo XIV has urged young people taking part in the Third National Youth Day in Monterrey to embrace Christ, walk with Him and pursue the holiness to which they are called.

In a message to organisers and participants of the gathering, taking place on August 15–16, the Pope said the event offers an opportunity for young people to meet with their pastors and strengthen their communion with Christ.

He described this communion as central to the purpose of life, saying that by sharing in Christ’s life, people can attain the holiness to which they are called.

Reflecting on the theme of the gathering, which recalls Christ’s words, “And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning” (Jn 15:27), Pope Leo encouraged young people to embrace these words through their lives.

“Only united with Christ can we help the world believe in Him,” the Pope said, highlighting the challenges young people face amid violence, indifference and a lack of meaning.

He also invited them to make time for silence and discernment so that they can recognise what is truly worthwhile.

“United with the Master,” he said, young people can become Christ’s witnesses and “signs of hope”.

Pope Leo concluded by encouraging the participants to take part in the National Youth Day with joyful enthusiasm and entrusted them to the maternal protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
