Pope Leo XIV Visits Castel Gandolfo Ahead of his Summer Holiday

Castel Gandolfo, Italy, July 4, 2025: Pope Leo XIV made a brief visit to the town of Castel Gandolfo on July 3 to inspect ongoing renovations at the Papal residence, where he will spend his summer holiday, the Holy See Press Office reported.

During his 14-day vacation in Castel Gandolfo, which begins on Sunday, July 6, the Pope will preside over several liturgical events.

On Sunday, July 13, he will celebrate Mass in the morning at the Pontifical Parish of Saint Thomas of Villanova. He will also lead the Angelus prayer in Freedom Square, in front of the Apostolic Palace, later that day.

The following Sunday, July 20, Pope Leo XIV will celebrate Mass in the morning in the Cathedral of Albano.

Notably, before his election to the papacy, then-Cardinal Robert Prevost served as titular bishop of the Diocese of Albano. Later that day, the Pope will once again lead the Angelus in Freedom Square before returning to the Vatican.

All private and general audiences of Pope Leo have been suspended for July due to his absence from the Vatican. His weekly General Audiences will resume on Wednesday, July 30.
