Pope Leo XIV Urges Asian Bishops to Deepen Eucharistic Spirituality and Foster Unity

Jakarta, July 26, 2026: Pope Leo XIV has encouraged the bishops of Asia to strengthen Eucharistic spirituality and promote ecclesial unity as they gather for the 12th Plenary Assembly of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) in Jakarta.

In a message addressed to the assembly, the Holy Father extended his greetings to the participants and assured them of his spiritual closeness. He prayed that the Holy Spirit would inspire and guide their deliberations as they discuss issues affecting the life and future of the Catholic Church in Asia.

Reflecting on the assembly's theme, drawn from Jesus' words to Nathanael, "You will see greater things," Pope Leo XIV said Christ is the unique mediator between God and humanity and the source of communion with both God and one another.

Referring to his recently published encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, the Pope reiterated that Christian solidarity finds its source in the mystery of Christ and is nourished through participation in the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. He urged the bishops to continue promoting a Eucharistic spirituality within their local Churches.

The Holy Father expressed hope that such spirituality would strengthen the bonds of communion within and among local Churches across Asia. He said this renewed unity would enable the faithful to become effective bridge-builders and stronger signs of God's presence in their respective countries.

Entrusting the assembly and its deliberations to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, Pope Leo XIV invoked upon the participants the gifts of wisdom and fortitude. He concluded by imparting his apostolic blessing, praying that the grace of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit would remain with them always.
