Pope Invites Dominicans to ‘Listen Attentively to the Holy Spirit’

Krakow, July 24, 2025 – Pope Leo XIV has assured his closeness in prayer to the Dominican provincial priors gathered in Krakow for the General Chapter of the Order of Preachers, urging them to remain attentive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and to deepen their service to the Body of Christ.

In a letter addressed to Fr. Gerard Timoner, Master of the Order of Preachers, the Pope conveyed his confidence that the gathering would be “an opportunity for renewal, rooted in the hope that never disappoints and the knowledge that the Lord has called you as preachers to proclaim the Good News amid today’s unique challenges.”

The theme of the Chapter focuses on the Dominican charism of preaching, especially directed toward four key audiences: those who do not yet know Jesus; the Christian faithful; those who have distanced themselves from Christ; and young people facing these situations. Pope Leo described this focus as “particularly timely.”

“I pray,” the Pope wrote, “that your deliberations may allow you to listen attentively to the Holy Spirit, Who continues to guide the Church in the fullness of truth.”

The Holy Father expressed his hope that the priors would renew their commitment to serving the Church in the spirit of St. Dominic. He encouraged them to embrace the evangelical way of life and live their vocation as contemplative preachers with renewed zeal.

“May your shared experience of fraternity and prayer strengthen the bonds of communion that unite you as Dominicans and inspire you to live ever more fully your vocation as contemplative preachers,” he said.

Pope Leo also affirmed his belief that the Dominican priors would continue their mission at the heart of the Church in fidelity to the charism and spirituality of St. Dominic.

Concluding his message, the Pope entrusted the General Chapter to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and imparted his Apostolic Blessing to all members of the Dominican Order.
