Chennai, February 18, 2026: A landmark moment in sacred music unfolded in the city on February 7 as NOVA, described as the first large-scale Catholic music concert of its kind in South India, was held at the Good Shepherd Convent Auditorium, drawing wide participation from clergy, musicians and youth.
Presented by the Cecilia Ensemble, the Youth Commission Choir Team of the Archdiocese of Chennai–Mylapore, the concert sought to reimagine Catholic music through a contemporary yet reverent artistic expression. The initiative was guided by Fr. George Anthonysamy, whose pastoral support shaped the spiritual direction of the programme.
The event brought together more than 50 musicians and singers, alongside the active involvement of over 150 young participants. Their collective effort transformed the venue into a space of prayerful musical expression, highlighting the growing role of youth in shaping creative forms of faith engagement.
Several noted Catholic music directors and vocalists contributed to the programme, presenting performances that emphasised unity and collaborative worship rather than individual showcase. The concert unfolded as a cohesive expression of shared faith through music.
Organisational leadership for the event was provided by Sherin Nancy, President of the Cecilia Ensemble, working under the guidance of Youth Director Fr. Ronald Richard. Their coordination ensured a professionally executed programme aligned with the concert’s spiritual vision.
With Madha TV serving as the official media partner, the event reached audiences beyond the auditorium, enhancing its visibility and impact.
Widely regarded as a significant cultural and spiritual initiative, NOVA marked a new chapter for Catholic music in South India, reflecting a convergence of faith, youth participation and artistic excellence.
