May 15, 2026: The National Dalit Christian Watch (NDCW) has strongly condemned the killing of three Baptist church leaders in Manipur, describing the attack as a tragic blow to ongoing efforts for peace and reconciliation in the violence-hit state.
In a statement issued on May 15, the organisation expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of Pastor Vumthang Sitlhou of Kaigoulun Lhouvum and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou, who were among the church leaders killed on May 13 while returning from a peace and reconciliation gathering.
NDCW said the slain leaders had devoted their lives to faith, service, and peacebuilding among communities affected by conflict. The organisation described the attack on the unarmed religious leaders as “a painful reminder of the continuing violence and insecurity faced by communities in Manipur.”
The statement noted that such acts of violence not only claim innocent lives but also undermine efforts toward justice, communal harmony, and lasting peace in the region.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the injured, and the affected church communities, NDCW assured prayers for healing, comfort, and strength for all those mourning the loss.
The organisation also called on the authorities to carry out a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
Appealing for restraint, NDCW urged communities, civil society groups, and religious leaders to reject hatred and retaliation and instead continue working toward dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and human dignity, the organisation stated that lasting harmony can only be achieved through justice, mutual respect, and solidarity among communities. NDCW also joined people of goodwill in praying for peace and healing in Manipur.
