South Korea, June 20, 2025: A South Korean scientist who holds the highest recorded IQ has sparked global interest after publicly affirming his Christian faith on social media.
On June 17, YoungHoon Kim, who claims an IQ of 276, shared a message on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “As the world’s highest IQ record holder, I believe that Jesus Christ is God, the way and the truth and the life.” The post quickly gained momentum, amassing 14 million views and over 250,000 likes by June 19.
Kim’s IQ credentials have been recognised by prominent organisations including the Giga Society, Mensa, World Memory Championships, and the World Memory Sports Council—in partnership with Guinness World Records and Official World Record.
Responding to the viral attention, the 36-year-old scientist wrote in a follow-up post on June 19, “I will use this opportunity to lead many souls to God,” later adding in reply to a commenter, “Amen. Christ is my logic.”
The Catholic Church upholds that God’s existence can be grasped through reason alone. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church (No. 36) teaches: “God, the first principle and last end of all things, can be known with certainty from the created world by the natural light of human reason.” This teaching is deeply rooted in Vatican Council I’s Dei Filius, which emphasises that through observing creation, human intellect can come to know God with confidence.
Kim had earlier expressed his belief on X in February, stating, “God exists. 100%.” He also suggested that human consciousness may go beyond brain function, theorising it could involve quantum information—something that might endure beyond death.
Kim is the founder and CEO of NeuroStory, a South Korean government-supported initiative focused on AI-driven brain health solutions. He also established the United Sigma Intelligence Association and serves on the board of the Lifeboat Foundation, which promotes safe scientific progress and aims to reduce risks posed by technologies like artificial intelligence.
