Goa, March 29, 2026: The Lenten tiatr “Provadi”, written and directed by Fr. Doyal Dias, marked its Silver Jubilee performance on March 27 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, drawing an appreciative audience from across Goa.
Lenten tiatrs remain a significant part of Goa’s cultural and spiritual life, offering a platform where faith and art intersect. “Provadi” centres on the Christian call to be a prophet through Baptism, highlighting the Church’s teaching on sharing in the priestly, prophetic and kingly mission of Jesus Christ. Through music, dialogue and storytelling, the tiatr encourages reflection on living out this prophetic role in contemporary society, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding Goa.
The production continues a tradition associated with the late Fr. Nevil Gracias, known for creating tiatrs rooted in strong Lenten messages. In a similar spirit, Fr. Doyal Dias blends entertainment with spiritual and moral formation.
Audiences responded positively to its meaningful humour and kantaram, which reinforced themes of repentance and renewal. The tiatr also served a catechetical purpose by incorporating elements of Church teaching, including references to Old Testament prophets and their relevance today.
Adding a pastoral dimension, the production introduced audiences to changes in the New Konkani Missal, presenting liturgical updates in an engaging and accessible manner.
The Silver Jubilee show concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the 25th performance. Cruz Silva, MLA of Velim Constituency, among the distinguished guests, commended Fr. Doyal Dias for delivering a timely message and contributing to both tiatr and society. Fr. Bolmax Pereira, president of the association, also addressed the gathering.
Produced by Menino Jesus Kala Association, Chinchinim, “Provadi” stands as a testament to the enduring role of tiatr as a medium for faith formation, culture and social awareness during the Lenten season.
