Trichy, Tamil Nadu, March 29, 2026: A spirit of prayerful joy and ecclesial unity marked the Diaconate Ordination of four Capuchin brothers at the Francesco Capuchin Institute of Theology, Samayapuram, as they took a significant step forward in their journey toward priesthood.
The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Arockiaraj Savarimuthu, who conferred the diaconate on Br. Sathish Sagavaraj OFM Cap, Br. Raj Mithru OFM Cap, Br. Sagava Selva Godwin OFM Cap, and Br. Arockia Barvin Raj OFM Cap.
In his homily, Bishop Savarimuthu reflected on the ordinands’ chosen motto, “To serve Like Him,” drawing attention to the profound meaning of diakonia—a life of service modelled on Christ Himself. He urged the newly ordained deacons to embody compassion, humility, and generosity in their ministry, particularly in their outreach to the poor and the vulnerable. Emphasising that the diaconate is not merely a function but a vocation, he called them to make selfless service the very foundation of their lives.
The celebration was enriched by the presence of religious from various congregations, as well as Provincials from the Mary Queen of Peace Province and the Amala Annai Province. Their participation highlighted the wider Church’s encouragement and solidarity with the Capuchin community.
The liturgy concluded with a fraternal gathering, where clergy, religious, family members, and well-wishers came together in thanksgiving and celebration of this important milestone.
The ordination stands as a reminder of the Church’s enduring call to service, as the newly ordained deacons now prepare to dedicate themselves more fully to ministry among the People of God.
