Thiruvalla/Kottayam, August 23, 2025: The Kerala Council of Churches (KCC) has strongly condemned the recent incident in which priests were attacked by political goons on the campus of CMS College, Kottayam, regarded as the grandmother of higher education in Kerala.
In a statement, KCC President Alexios Mar Youse Beos Metropolitan and General Secretary Dr Prakash P. Thomas criticised the act of Leftist goons who trespassed on the college premises and assaulted priests. They demanded that both the party leadership and the state government take decisive action against those who target Christian management institutions and administrators, as well as against individuals who unlawfully take the law into their own hands.
The KCC leaders noted that the violence occurred despite a High Court order. They accused the trespassers of deliberately ignoring legal directives and warned that the police’s failure to prevent the incident had effectively paved the way for lawlessness and disorder.
They further cautioned that if attacks against the Christian community within Kerala and beyond are not opposed and eliminated, such silence would amount to opportunism. The statement urged political movements to prove their neutrality by refraining from actions that target Christian institutions.
The KCC emphasised that the attack not only violated the rule of law but also undermined the secular fabric of the state. It called for accountability from both the political establishment and law enforcement authorities to ensure that similar incidents are not repeated.
