KCYM Verapoly Marks World Environment Day with Sapling Distribution Initiative

Panayikulam, June 5, 2026: In a meaningful observance of World Environment Day, the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) of the Archdiocese of Verapoly launched a sapling distribution drive to promote environmental stewardship and encourage communities to contribute to a greener and more sustainable Kerala.


The programme, hosted by the KCYM Panayikulam Unit, was inaugurated by Fr. Jiju Cletus Thiyadi, Director of the Verapoly Archdiocesan Youth Commission. The event began with the symbolic distribution of a sapling to Rajeev Patric, President of KCYM Verapoly Archdiocese, underscoring the organisation’s commitment to caring for creation.


Youth leaders, animators and representatives from various units across the archdiocese participated in the initiative, highlighting the growing involvement of young Catholics in environmental action. Among those present were Rose Mary K.J., General Secretary of KCYM Verapoly Archdiocese, and Vinoj Varghese, Vice President.


The host unit was represented by Jershad T.J., President of KCYM Panayikulam Unit, along with Youth Animator Sr. Saina CTC, Sr. Alphy CTC and other office bearers.


Organisers said the initiative was intended not only to distribute saplings but also to inspire greater environmental awareness and responsibility among individuals and communities. Through the programme, KCYM Verapoly renewed its commitment to protecting nature and promoting ecological values in keeping with the Church’s call to care for our common home.
