Goa workshop trains lectors in effective proclamation of Konkani Bible

Margao, September 19, 2026: The Diocesan Centre for Biblical Apostolate (DCBA) of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, in collaboration with Konknni Daiz Trust, organised a one-day workshop to train participants in the effective reading and proclamation of the Word of God during liturgical celebrations.

Titled ‘Utor-Vach’ – Effective Reading and Proclamation of the Word of God, the seminar was held on September 19 at the Holy Spirit Institute, Margao, with a focus on helping lectors proclaim the Konkani Bible with clarity, understanding and reverence.

The programme opened with the enthronement of the Bible, underscoring the central place of Sacred Scripture in the life and mission of the Church.

Fr. Alfred Vaz, parish priest of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, delivered the keynote address and led the main session on the liturgical dimensions of proclaiming the Word of God. He highlighted the need for lectors to prepare adequately before proclaiming Scripture and stressed the skills required for effective liturgical proclamation.

Agnelo Borim conducted a session on articulation, pronunciation, voice modulation and tone, while Fr. Polly Lobo drew from his pastoral experience to reflect on the role of the Word of God in pastoral ministry.

The workshop also included practical exercises in which participants practised reading and proclamation and received feedback from the resource persons. The resource team included Fr. Roman Rodrigues, Fr. Anthony Carvalho, Fr. Milagres Dias, Fr. Polly Lobo, Fr. Mario Costa, Fr. Alfred Vaz, Fr. Rock Da Costa, Fr. Menino Vales, Agnelo Borim, John Silveira and Celso Fernandes.

Welcoming the participants, Fr. Onasis D’Cruz, Director of DCBA, emphasised the importance of proclaiming the Word of God with faith, clarity and understanding.

Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto, head of the Konknni Daiz Trust, proposed the vote of thanks.

The organisers stressed that effective proclamation involves careful preparation, understanding of the text, correct pronunciation, appropriate expression and reverence for Sacred Scripture.
