Goa, October 11, 2026: The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman marked its annual Day of the Mass Media Apostolate on October 11 with a special Eucharistic celebration at Holy Family Church, Marcela, highlighting the importance of responsible communication in promoting truth, human dignity and social harmony.
Fr. Jouquim Fernandes, SVD, Episcopal Vicar for Religious, presided over the morning Mass, concelebrated by Fr. Barry Cardozo, director of the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media (DCSCM), Goa, and Fr. George SFX.
In his homily, Fr. Cardozo called on communicators to share the Good News and foster unity through responsible communication.
He stressed the moral responsibility of media professionals and citizen journalists to uphold journalistic ethics and ensure accuracy and integrity in reporting.
Referring to Pope Leo XIV’s message for World Communications Day, Fr. Cardozo addressed the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and digital technologies. He emphasised that technological progress must safeguard human dignity and truth while strengthening genuine human relationships rather than replacing them.
In his introductory remarks, Fr. Fernandes welcomed the DCSCM team and acknowledged its contribution to the Archdiocese. He encouraged the faithful to make use of the Centre’s programmes and initiatives.
Fr. Cardozo later celebrated the Children’s Mass and interacted with the children, explaining how effective communication and proper etiquette could help them in everyday life, both online and offline.
He thanked Fr. Fernandes for hosting the DCSCM team and facilitating the celebration in Marcela. He also acknowledged the guidance and support of Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão and Auxiliary Bishop Simiao Fernandes in the Centre’s work.
