Elderly Nun Reported Missing After Being Dropped at Nagercoil Railway Station

Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, May 29, 2026 — Concern and uncertainty have gripped the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate after a 68-year-old nun was reported missing following her stay at her native place in Tamil Nadu during the holidays.

Sister Amala, who belongs to the congregation and was serving in Secunderabad, Telangana, had travelled to her hometown at Poonthope in Tamil Nadu to spend time with her elder sister during the vacation period.

According to Sister Caspar, the Provincial Superior of the congregation, Sister Amala had travelled along with a few other sisters who were journeying to nearby destinations. After reaching Nagercoil railway station, sisters from the congregation’s convent at Karungal had received her and safely escorted her to her residence.

Speaking about the events leading up to her disappearance, Sister Caspar said she had personally visited Sister Amala and her elder sister during her official visits to various communities and homes of the congregation.

“I had informed them that the sisters would come on May 29 to pick her up and take her to the Nagercoil railway station, just as they had accompanied her while coming,” the Provincial said.

Sister Amala was expected to return to Secunderabad on May 30 along with the same sisters who had travelled with her earlier.

However, when members of the congregation contacted the family on May 29 regarding the travel arrangements, they were informed that following a minor disagreement between the siblings, Sister Amala had insisted on leaving earlier. Her elder sister reportedly dropped her at the Nagercoil railway station on May 25.

“We were not informed that Sister Amala had already been dropped at the railway station, even though they were aware that the pickup was scheduled for May 29,” Sister Caspar said.

The Provincial further revealed that Sister Amala has certain memory-related health concerns and is undergoing medication. She also noted that the elder sister is not in a fully stable mental condition, which may have contributed to the communication gap surrounding the incident.

Members of the congregation have been trying to contact Sister Amala, but her mobile phone remains switched off.

“It is possible that the battery may have drained by now,” Sister Caspar said.

With no information available regarding her whereabouts since May 25, anxiety has increased among the sisters of the congregation and family members.

The congregation has now approached the authorities at Kottar, under whose jurisdiction the locality falls, to file an official missing complaint.

“Only after the complaint is registered will the police formally take up the matter,” the Provincial explained.

Appealing for prayers, Sister Caspar said, “Please pray that we will find Sister Amala safely at the earliest.”

The congregation continues efforts to trace the missing nun while seeking clarity regarding what may have happened after she was dropped at the railway station.
