Diocese of Allahabad Hosts 24th Annual Youth Formation Programme

Prayagraj, 1 June, 2025: The 24th edition of the Allahabad Diocesan Life Orientation Programme (ADLOP) was inaugurated on 29 May, at Sadhana Sadan, Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Prayagraj, by Louis Mascarenhas, Bishop of Allahabad and Chairman of ICYM Allahabad.

Initiated 25 years ago by the late Bishop Isidore Fernandes, ADLOP is a week-long summer programme for students of Classes 9 to 12. Organised by the Youth Commission (ICYM) Allahabad, it aims to help young people discern their vocation, deepen their spiritual lives, and reflect on core Christian values.

In his inaugural address, Bishop Mascarenhas urged participants to embrace their Christian identity and, like the disciples, carry the values learned at ADLOP into their daily lives.

This year, 55 participants from various parishes across the diocese are attending sessions on Bible study, sacraments, emotional and mental well-being, relationships, leadership, social responsibility, safe social media use, health, Marian devotion, yoga, and time management.

The inauguration began with a Holy Eucharistic Celebration led by Bishop Mascarenhas, followed by the formal opening ceremony. A traditional lamp-lighting ritual was performed by the Bishop along with Sr. Sumita CJ, Fr. Joel Fernandes, Sr. Vinaya CJ, Fr. Melwin Pais, Mr. Ankit Benedict, Ms. Garima Dsouza, and two youth representatives.

The ceremony featured a prayer dance, Bible procession, welcome address, ICYM annual report video, the Bishop’s address, a vote of thanks, and the Diocesan Youth Anthem. Mr. Ankit Benedict delivered the welcome speech, while Ms. Garima Dsouza proposed the vote of thanks. The event was compered by Ms. Deepti and Mr. Robinson.
