Chikmagalur Priests, Religious Renew Mission of Evangelization

CHIKMAGALUR, August 20, 2026: Priests and religious of the Diocese of Chikmagalur renewed their commitment to evangelisation and pastoral outreach during a seminar held at Spoorthi Sadana, Chikmagalur, as part of the Year of Evangelisation.

Fr. A. Lawrence, president of St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bengaluru, served as the resource person and reflected on the Church’s mission of evangelization, with particular emphasis on reaching people living on the peripheries.

He stressed that authentic evangelisation must remain rooted in the Gospel and be expressed through concrete acts of love, compassion and solidarity with the poor, marginalised and downtrodden. Evangelisation, he noted, calls the Church to move beyond words and respond to the realities and needs of people in different pastoral contexts.

The seminar provided priests and religious with an opportunity to examine their pastoral responsibilities and reflect on ways of becoming more effective instruments of evangelization.

Group discussions followed the presentation, enabling participants to share pastoral experiences, challenges and practical suggestions. Discussions focused on strengthening evangelisation initiatives and making the Church’s mission more meaningful, relevant and accessible to people.

Bishop T. Anthony Swamy of Chikmagalur encouraged the priests and religious to pursue the mission with renewed zeal, commitment and pastoral enthusiasm. He urged them to make the Year of Evangelisation a period of spiritual renewal, missionary outreach and concrete service to people in need.

The seminar concluded with a renewed sense of shared mission, encouraging the clergy and religious to work together towards building a more compassionate, missionary and evangelising Church in the Diocese of Chikmagalur.
