Goa, April 8, 2026: In a move aimed at reviving interest in classical ecclesiastical language studies, the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) has announced an Online Basic Latin Certificate Course to be conducted by its Extension Secretariat at Shanti Sadan, Benaulim, Goa.
Open to anyone interested in learning Latin, the course is scheduled to run from July to December 2026, with weekly sessions held every Monday from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm. The programme will formally commence on July 6, 2026, with its inaugural session conducted online.
Designed as an accessible entry point into Latin, the course places a strong emphasis on structured learning, making the prescribed Basic Latin Grammar Book mandatory for all participants. The sessions will be delivered through the Zoom platform, with registered participants receiving access details in advance.
Organisers have specified that registration will be processed exclusively through submitted forms in Word format via email, accompanied by payment details. A fee of Rs. 3000 is required, to be transferred to the Shanti Sadan account. The registration fee is non-refundable, and participants are expected to attend all sessions to qualify for certification.
At the completion of the programme, participants who fulfil all requirements will be awarded an e-certificate by the CCBI, recognising their engagement and learning.
The initiative underscores a renewed institutional effort to make foundational theological and liturgical languages more widely accessible in a structured, digital format, reflecting evolving modes of ecclesiastical education.
