DHAMPUR, Uttar Pradesh, July 24, 2026: A 61-year-old Catholic religious sister has been reported missing from Dhampur in Bijnor district after she was last seen leaving her convent premises early on July 22.
Sister Sajitha FSLG, who serves as the accountant and superior of the religious community, was reportedly seen at the school gate at around 5:20 a.m. carrying a small polythene bag. Her mobile phone was later found at the convent.
According to information shared with Catholic Connect, there was no common Mass at the convent that morning. The sisters instead had a separate prayer before leaving for their respective duties. As Sister Sajitha normally followed a different schedule from the principal and other school staff, her absence was not immediately noticed.
Sister Sajitha's absence came to the attention of the community only around lunchtime, following which the sisters began searching for her.
The community subsequently examined CCTV footage, which showed Sister Sajitha leaving through the school gate at 5:20 a.m. with a small polythene bag. Further CCTV footage from outside the school premises and along nearby roads is being examined by the police. According to the information available, footage reviewed so far appears to show her attempting to board a bus.
The matter has been reported to the police, and members of the congregation's General Administration team, along with other sisters, have joined efforts to trace her whereabouts.
The religious community has said that there was no unusual incident reported within the convent prior to her disappearance and is hoping for her safe return.
