Rome, October 25, 2025 — Cardinal Raymond Burke has strongly denounced a series of fabricated videos and images circulating online that falsely attribute to him statements opposing Pope Leo XIV. The senior prelate issued a firm declaration clarifying that he has never delivered or endorsed any such remarks and described the videos as “works of deceit produced through technological manipulation.”
The videos, allegedly generated through digital alteration, portray Cardinal Burke as criticising the Holy Father’s leadership and teachings. “I state with all clarity that such assertions are entirely false,” he declared. “I have made no such statements, nor have I given any address or interview even remotely resembling what is being described.”
Condemning the fabrications as gravely sinful, Cardinal Burke likened their creators to sowers of division within the Church. “The deliberate use of falsehood to sow division within the Church is gravely sinful,” he said, referencing Scripture: “Our Lord Himself teaches that the devil was a murderer from the beginning and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him… for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).
Reaffirming his loyalty, Cardinal Burke publicly declared his “obedience, filial love, and unwavering respect for the Supreme Pontiff, Pope Leo XIV, the Vicar of Christ on earth.” He underscored that the unity of the Church around the Successor of Saint Peter is “willed by Our Lord Himself and is essential to the integrity of our Catholic faith.”
The Cardinal also urged the faithful to remain steadfast in their trust in the Pope’s authentic teaching and to reject divisive voices seeking to “distort the truth for worldly purposes and sow the seeds of scandal among souls.”
In his concluding appeal, Cardinal Burke called on Catholics to respond to the situation “not with anger or suspicion, but with faith and prayer.” He reminded believers that “the Christian’s first recourse in every trial is always to the Heart of Jesus, who conquers falsehood by the power of His truth and love.”
He further appealed for prayers for those responsible for spreading the falsehoods: “Pray earnestly for those who create and spread such deceptions, that, touched by divine grace, they may turn from darkness to the light of truth, from the bondage of lies to the freedom of conversion.”
The Cardinal’s statement serves as a stark warning about the dangers of digital manipulation and misinformation within the Church, reaffirming both his loyalty to the Pope and his commitment to the truth.
