A Journey of Faith Through the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help

June 18, 2026: For millions of Catholics around the world, the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help is more than just a prayer devotion — it is a source of comfort, hope, and strength in times of difficulty. As the faithful gather for nine days of prayer and reflection, many turn to Mother Mary with trust, believing that she continues to intercede lovingly for all who seek her help.

The devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help has touched generations of believers and remains one of the most loved Marian devotions in the Catholic Church. Rooted in faith and tradition, the novena invites people to bring their fears, struggles, thanksgiving, and hopes before Mary, who gently leads them closer to Jesus.

The devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help is centred around a sacred icon that dates back to the fifteenth century. The image shows Mother Mary holding the Child Jesus, while the Archangels Michael and Gabriel stand beside them holding the instruments of Christ’s Passion. The icon became widely known after Pope Pius IX entrusted it to the Redemptorists in 1866 with the mission to “make her known throughout the world.”

Since then, the devotion has spread across continents and has become one of the most loved Marian devotions in the Church. In India too, thousands of devotees gather every week in churches and shrines dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help to pray for healing, peace, guidance, and hope.
