St. Thomas Church, Aldona, Goa Marks Jubilee of Mothers

Goa, September 17, 2025 — The Jubilee of Mothers was joyfully celebrated at St. Thomas Church, Aldona, coinciding with the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Eucharistic celebration was led by Parish Priest, Fr. Tomas Lobo, with Assistant Parish Priest, Fr. Agnelo Simoes, concelebrating. Following Mass, the parish community honoured mothers with a vibrant cultural programme that included a welcome song, skit, mime and dance. A Mothers’ Day cake was cut to mark the occasion.

In his address, Fr. Lobo highlighted the invaluable role of mothers, presenting the acronym MOTHER as a tribute: Missionary, Optimistic person, Teacher, Hope-instiller, Educator, and Rock of resilience. He commended mothers as central figures in nurturing families and sustaining society. Mast. Ian Fernandes and Miss Emmanuela Colaço also offered heartfelt reflections on motherhood.

The celebration also witnessed the official launch of the parish YouTube channel song “Noman Tuka Marie”, composed by Fr. Lobo. The performance was met with warm appreciation from parishioners.

Ms. Pricila Fernandes delivered the vote of thanks, while Miss Gianna Colaço and Miss Rosanne D’Cruz compered the event, ensuring a smooth flow of the proceedings.

Preparations for the Jubilee began with a nine-day novena dedicated to Mother Mary, each day marked by a unique theme. Catechism children played an active role in animating the daily rosary through skits, presentations and posters. Catechists prepared the liturgy, engaging children in creative and meaningful ways.

Throughout the novena, children participated in symbolic activities that deepened their devotion. They created a rosary, star, crown, heart and even a garment for Mother Mary, each serving as a reminder of her role in guiding the faithful. The Eucharistic celebrations reflected strong involvement from the younger members of the parish, who infused the occasion with energy and reverence.

The Jubilee of Mothers at St. Thomas Church stood as both a spiritual and cultural event, affirming the dignity of motherhood while honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary. Parishioners expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the mothers in their midst, who continue to embody faith, love and resilience in their families and community life.
