Pontifical Mission Organisations Get New Headquarters in Bangalore

Bangalore, February 7, 2026: The new headquarters of the Pontifical Mission Organisations was blessed and inaugurated on February 7 in Bangalore, in the presence of more than 170 bishops from the Latin, Syro-Malabar and Syro-Malankara Churches, who were in the city for the meetings of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India.

Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, inaugurated the building by cutting the ribbon and unveiling the plaque. Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India, led the blessing ceremony, joined by senior Church leaders from the three rites, including Major Archbishop Raphael Thattil, Major Archbishop Cardinal Baselios Mar Cleemis, and Cardinal Anthony Poola.

Following the blessing, a brief felicitation programme was held, during which the architect, engineer, contractor and workers involved in the construction were honoured.

The project, long envisioned by successive national directors, was realised during the tenure of Bishop Ambrose Pitchaimuthu. After his episcopal appointment in 2023, the construction was overseen by Dr. Stephen Alathara. The foundation stone had been laid on January 29, 2024, by Cardinal Ferrão.

Located near MG Road in Ulsoor, the new facility houses office rooms, a boardroom, chapel, documentation room and media room, and is expected to strengthen the functioning of the CCBI’s missionary initiatives.

The Pontifical Mission Organisations comprise four missionary societies: the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St. Peter the Apostle, the Holy Childhood Association, and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. In India, they function under the CCBI Commission for Proclamation.
