Over 300 Anti-Christian Attacks Reported in India in the First 5 Months of 2025

New Delhi, June 18, 2025: Violence against Christians in India has surged at an alarming rate, with 313 incidents reported between January and May 2025, according to data from the United Christian Forum (UCF) Helpline. The data reveals a disturbing upward trend: incidents have risen from 127 in 2014 to 834 in 2024. These figures show that, on average, more than two Christians are attacked every day in the country.

The UCF, a civil society initiative that tracks hate crimes against Christians in India, compiled the figures based on distress calls received on their helpline from victims and witnesses across the country. Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have emerged as epicentres of this growing crisis, characterised by hate speech, mob violence, false accusations of forced religious conversions, and widespread social exclusion.

Many incidents remain unreported due to fear of retribution and a pervasive climate of impunity, where sections of the law enforcement and judicial systems appear to act in complicity with the perpetrators of such attacks or with indifference.

A.C. Michael, a spokesperson for the UCF, stated that if such attacks are not stopped immediately by political will and concerted government action, it will threaten the identity and existence of the Indian Christian community in their own motherland.
