Mysore Diocese Organises Faith Formation Programmes for 560 Students

MARTALLI, October 10, 2026: The Diocese of Mysore brought together 560 high school and pre-university students for two faith formation programmes at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Martalli, on October 9, focusing on spiritual growth, Christian values and personal development.

Organised by the diocesan Commission for Faith Formation and Catechetics as part of the Year of Faith 2026, the programmes included UPAASANA, themed “Sitting Near the Lord,” for students of Classes VIII–X, and the YSM Conclave for first- and second-year Pre-University Course (PUC) students.

Inspired by Luke 10:39, which describes Mary listening to Jesus at his feet, UPAASANA invited students to deepen their relationship with Christ through prayer, Scripture and reflection. The programmes also highlighted responsibility towards faith, the Church and personal growth, encouraging participants to draw inspiration from the saints.

The sessions addressed Christian values, self-awareness, communication, teamwork and interpersonal relationships. Students were encouraged to practise honesty, compassion, forgiveness, discipline and respect in their daily lives and to assume greater responsibility within their families, schools, parishes and communities.

Fr Wilfred Anthony, Fr James Joseph, Fr Arokia Prabhu and Fr Elangovan served as resource persons. Sr Felicia SND and Fr Pradeep Marshall MMM contributed through formation sessions and interactive activities involving music and games. After a common inaugural session, the students participated in separate programmes tailored to their respective age groups.

The initiatives sought to integrate faith formation with life skills, helping young people strengthen their commitment to Christ and translate Christian values into practical expressions of love, service and social responsibility.

Fr Dr M. Vincent, parish priest and dean of Our Lady of Lourdes Deanery, Martalli, hosted the programmes, with Fr Christopher as coordinator. Religious sisters, coordinators and volunteers assisted in organising the events.
