MP Regional ICYM AGBM in Satna Renews Commitment to Youth Ministry

Satna, Madhya Pradesh, April 25, 2026: Youth leaders from across Madhya Pradesh gathered in Satna for the Regional Annual General Body Meeting (AGBM) of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), reaffirming their commitment to empowering young people and strengthening their participation in the life and mission of the Church.

Hosted by the Diocese of Satna, the two-day assembly was held at the Edessa Pastoral Centre, Pateri, from April 21 to 22 under the theme, "Empowering the Youth Spirit." The event brought together diocesan representatives, youth leaders, and Church officials from across the region.

The gathering commenced on April 20 with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, led by Fr. Joshy E. Poulose, Regional Youth Director, concelebrated by diocesan youth directors. The formal inauguration followed with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, a colourful cultural presentation, and an inspiring address by Bishop Joseph Kodakallil of Satna, who welcomed the delegates and encouraged them in their mission.

The second day began with prayer and Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop James Athikalam of Sagar, Chairman of the ICYM Madhya Pradesh Region. A highlight of the programme was an engaging session by Fr. John Barman, MSFS, Associate Executive Secretary of the CCBI Youth Commission, who reflected on the challenges and aspirations of Generation Z and underscored the importance of keeping young people rooted in the Church.

During the Annual General Body Meeting, moderated by Bishop Athikalam, delegates reviewed the achievements and initiatives of the past year. Vice President Martin Singh presented the annual report for 2025–26, while Media Secretary Asish Kujur showcased the year's activities through a creative video presentation.

Financial reports were presented by Asish Charpota, followed by the presentation of the budget for 2026–27 by Fr. Joshy E. Poulose. Gourav Buriya outlined the Madhya Pradesh Regional Youth Commission's annual plan, setting the direction for the coming year.

The assembly also deliberated on several important initiatives, including the Vikalp e-magazine, the Yuva Harit Bharat environmental project, and proposed amendments to the regional by-laws. Bishop James Athikalam commended the council members for their dedication and visionary leadership.

Cultural performances, diocesan reports, and the distribution of awards for the Inter-Diocesan Action Song competition added colour and enthusiasm to the gathering.

The meeting concluded on April 22 with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Bishop Joseph Kodakallil. During a heartfelt "Open Heart" session, the bishop engaged directly with the youth, offering pastoral guidance and encouraging them to return to their dioceses as ambassadors of hope and renewal.

Organised by the MP Regional REXCO team and graciously hosted by the Diocese of Satna, the AGBM reflected a vibrant and united vision for the future of youth ministry in Madhya Pradesh.
