Italian Language Course Equips Clergy and Laity for Ministry in Italy

Italy, June 29, 2025 : An intensive Italian language programme, “Sua Eccellenza,” is opening new avenues for Bishops, priests, religious, and laypeople preparing for ministry and study in Italy. Organised by Yesni Prays and conducted online via Zoom, the course is designed to offer not merely linguistic competence but also pastoral and cultural immersion.

The training spans three progressive levels: Basic (A1–A2), Intermediate (A2–B1), and Advanced (B1–C1). Each level comprises 16 days of instruction, totalling 32 hours. Classes are scheduled on Wednesdays from 6 pm to 8 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm. The Basic course runs from July to August 2025, the Intermediate from September to October, and the Advanced from November to December.

Prof. Dr. Yesu Karunanidhi, alongside native Italian speakers, will lead participants through a robust curriculum. The course focuses on reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills while offering unique insights into Italian ecclesiastical life. Special emphasis is placed on learning to say Mass and pray the Breviary in Italian, a vital skill for those engaging in pastoral work in Italy.

Materials from the renowned Sant’Egidio community support the learning process, ensuring participants access authentic and relevant resources. Beyond language, the course introduces Italian culture and etiquette, providing practical guidance essential for effective ministry and integration into Italian society.

Graduates of the programme will receive a certificate recognising their proficiency and readiness for ecclesiastical or academic pursuits in Italy. The course fee is set at ₹9,600 per level, with seats limited to 24 participants per batch, underscoring the programme’s commitment to personalised attention and high-quality instruction.
