INDORE, AUGUST 17, 2026: A community session on self-reliance, skill development and sustainable income generation was held at Infant Jesus Church, Nandbag, on August 16 as part of the 75th Platinum Jubilee Year celebrations of the Diocese of Indore.
Organised by the Indore Diocese Social Service Society on the initiative of parish priest Father Naveen Deni Balraj, the programme focused on practical ways for individuals and families to develop skills, create livelihoods and improve financial independence.
The session was led by Father Martin Kujur, along with Sister Leena, Sarita and Nita.
A major focus was on Self-Help Groups, known as Swayam Sahayata Samuh, and their potential to create sustainable sources of income. Participants were introduced to ways of working collectively, making productive investments, developing small businesses and undertaking income-generating activities.
The organisers also shared practical livelihood opportunities suitable for urban communities and highlighted the social service society's initiatives in skill training and educational assistance. These programmes are aimed at helping individuals and families strengthen their capacity for self-reliance.
Participants received guidance on skill development, self-employment, savings, investment and income generation. The discussions encouraged them to identify available opportunities and explore sustainable livelihood options.
The programme concluded with the presentation of a bouquet to the organising team as a gesture of appreciation for its service and guidance.
The session highlighted self-reliance as an important pathway towards sustainable livelihoods and encouraged participants to make greater use of skill development, collective initiatives and self-employment opportunities.
