New Delhi, June 11, 2025: India reported six Covid-19-related deaths and 306 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, pushing the country’s active case count to 7,121, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday morning. Out of the six virus-related fatalities, three were reported from Kerala, two from Karnataka, and one from Maharashtra. Among the deceased, one was a 43-year-old male with a compromised immune system. The other victims were elderly and suffered from pre-existing respiratory and chronic health conditions.
Kerala continues to lead the Covid-19 chart with 2,223 active cases and 170 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours, according to data published on the MoHFW website. Gujarat follows with 114 fresh cases and an active case tally of 1,223. Delhi also saw a rise in its active caseload, now standing at 757, after reporting 66 new cases. Maharashtra, despite logging only two new cases, reported one death. Karnataka recorded a decrease in active cases but saw two fatalities. West Bengal and Tamil Nadu reported 747 and 204 active cases, respectively.
Health experts have attributed the recent uptick in infections to newer subvariants, including LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and the globally spreading NB.1.8.1, which now accounts for 10% of cases worldwide. Despite this, medical professionals have advised against mass booster vaccination drives, recommending instead targeted protection for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and immunocompromised.
Authorities have also urged the public to strictly adhere to COVID-appropriate behaviour, such as wearing masks, practising proper hand hygiene, and avoiding crowded places. The central government has issued advisories to states and union territories, calling for increased preparedness and surveillance.
In response to the overlapping symptoms of COVID-19 and seasonal viral fevers, such as fever, fatigue, and respiratory discomfort, doctors have stressed the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment, especially for high-risk individuals.
The Indian Medical Association has reiterated the need for continued caution and preventive measures to contain the spread of the virus as the country braces for a potential rise in infections.
