Bangalore, May 23, 2025: A significant initiative aimed at equipping priests and religious with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively serve in their roles was conducted in Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram (DVK), Bangalore, in collaboration with Christ University, Bangalore.
The diploma course on pastoral management and leadership saw the participation of around 30 priests and religious from across the country.
During the award ceremony, at the conclusion of the diploma course, Fr. Mathew Attumkal, the president of DVK Bangalore, emphasised the importance of understanding people and responding to their needs in the administrative role of a pastor. He highlighted the challenges faced by pastors in the contemporary secular world and the need for guidance and support.
The course emphasised three key requirements for pastors: having a deep knowledge of people and their needs, being aware of professionalism and management skills. By focusing on these areas, the course aimed to help participants develop a deeper understanding of pastoral management and leadership.
The diploma course was designed to be a blend of secular and sacred sciences, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of their roles. Participants have praised the course for its good arrangements, friendly atmosphere, and useful sessions, noting that it has helped shape their vision and equip them with the skills needed to lead with empathy and serve with dedication.
As Fr. Mathew Attumkal noted, "India needs shepherds who lead by good example and by commitment." This course was a step in the right direction towards developing such leaders, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the communities they serve.
