Delhi Prayer Meeting Disrupted Over Conversion Allegations; Police Find No Evidence

NEW DELHI, September 22, 2026: A Sunday Christian prayer meeting at a hotel in Janakpuri was disrupted on September 20 after a group entered the gathering and alleged that Hindus were being converted to Christianity, including a claim that around 500 people were being offered money as an inducement.

The allegations, circulated through videos on social media, were subsequently rejected by the Delhi Police, which said its enquiry found no evidence of religious conversion at the gathering. 

The meeting, held at the Hyatt Centric hotel, was organised by the Global Royal Priesthood Church as part of its regular Sunday prayer gathering. According to reports, members of the group that entered the venue accused the organisers of conducting mass conversions and claimed that children attending the meeting were Hindus.

Videos from the incident also showed allegations that people who objected to the gathering had been mistreated or assaulted. These claims were not independently established in the reports reviewed.

In another video, a member of the group displayed forms and alleged that they were being used to facilitate the conversion of about 500 Hindus through financial inducements.

West Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Vichitra Veer, however, said the gathering was a regular Sunday prayer meeting attended by members of the local Christian community.

“Upon enquiry, no matter related to religious conversion was found,” the DCP said in a statement on X. He also rejected the claim that around 500 people were being converted and urged the public not to believe rumours. 

The forms shown in the videos were reported to be prayer-request and application forms associated with the Global Royal Priesthood Church. One sought details from participants and their prayer intentions, while another, titled “Welcome to Priesthood Generation”, asked attendees about positions or roles in which they were interested within the organisation. 

The church reportedly holds its Sunday prayer meetings regularly at the hotel. An invitation shared by a senior pastor for the September 20 gathering described it as an “Atonement Sunday Service.” 

The incident has since generated competing accounts on social media, with allegations of mass conversion contrasting with the police finding that no conversion-related matter was established during its enquiry.

For now, the Delhi Police's statement provides the official account of the incident, rejecting both the alleged mass conversion and the claim involving 500 people.
