Day of the Girl Child Celebrated at SRA Sisters Convent in Siolim, Goa

Goa, September 8, 2025: The Queen of Apostles (SRA) Sisters based at the Vivian Niwas convent in Siolim, Goa, marked the day dedicated to the girl child in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman on September 7, 2025, with an event at the convent premises. The programme aimed to promote a spirit of gender equality and empowerment among young girls boarding at the convent.

Sr. Renita Pinto, SRA, led a prayer service in the convent chapel to open the celebration. The event continued with a cake-cutting ceremony honouring the boarders of Vivian Niwas who celebrate their birthdays in September.

In her address, chief guest Angela Fernandes urged the girls of the convent to form a clear vision for their lives, nurture love and unity within their families, and limit gadget use during family time. “Inculcate the virtues of Mother Mary,” she advised.

Anthony Gonsalves’ skit became the highlight of the event, powerfully conveying the message of gender equality. A group of girls who are boarders at Vivian Niwas presented a graceful prayer dance, while interactive games and lively action songs added vibrancy to the event.

Sr. Sharlie Antony, Superior of Vivian Niwas, warmly welcomed all attendees, while Sr. Shirley Fernandes, Coordinator of the Vivian Niwas Social Centre, meticulously coordinated the event. 44 young girls actively participated in the programme, which was anchored seamlessly by Arlicha Fernandes. Guests distributed prizes to the winners, and Sr. Sarvina Mascarenhas, SRA, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks on behalf of the Vivian Niwas community.

Parents and lay associates of the SRA community attended the celebration, which fostered hope, empowerment, and solidarity among the girls of Vivian Niwas.
