Chokihola Parish Hosts Food Fest to Support 2026 Diocesan Youth Convention in Diphu, Assam

Chokihola, Assam, May 6, 2025: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) unit of Assumption Church, Chokihola, organised a Food Fest on Sunday, May 4, 2025, to raise funds for the 28th ICYM Annual Youth Convention 2026 of the Diocese of Diphu. The event, held at the Assumption Church playground, brought together members of the local community through traditional food, cultural unity, and charitable purpose.

The Food Fest featured several stalls offering an array of home-cooked vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. A standout aspect of the event was the inclusion of traditional Karbi cuisine at many of the stalls, showcasing the culinary heritage of the region’s predominant tribe. These offerings provided visitors with a unique opportunity to get a taste of indigenous recipes.

Visitors enjoyed a thoughtfully arranged seating area that allowed them to relax and engage with fellow community members while enjoying their meals. Despite the modest number of stalls, the event was well-received and celebrated for its warm, community-driven atmosphere and spiritual unity.

All proceeds from the fest will go toward organising the upcoming Diocesan Youth Convention in 2026.

Members of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) unit of Assumption Church, Chokihola, extended their heartfelt appreciation to Rev. Fr. Vinod Chamakalayil, Parish Priest, and Rev. Fr. Prince Kujur, Assistant Parish Priest, for their spiritual guidance and steadfast support in organising the food fest. The Sisters of the MSMHC from Assumption Convent, Chokihola, were also acknowledged for their valuable contributions.

Notable gratitude was extended to Mr. Horen Teron, Vice President of ICYM-Diphu Diocese, whose financial support, guidance, and use of his personal vehicle ensured the smooth execution of the event.

The initiative was led by Miss Rita Ingtipi, President of ICYM Chokihola Parish, along with Vice President Mr. Ojit Phangcho, Secretary Mr. Harlongbi Phangcho, and Assistant Secretary Miss Arlish Hansepi. Their leadership and teamwork played a key role in the event’s success.
